Edison Robots Obstacle Course

STEAM Resources: Edison Robots | Yarra Plenty Regional Library

Your task is to design and build an obstacle course to be completed by a peer group and their Edison Robot. You will need to provide the physical course along with the correct code to complete your course. You will then need to develop a code to complete an obstacle course designed by another peer group.

Your obstacle course must include the following:

  • Straight line movement,
  • Turning movement,
  • Sound sensor movement,
  • Line following movement,
  • Obstacle detection and
  • Line detection

Stage one – Brainstorm

Some ideas our group came up with are:

  • Barrels
  • Table
  • Lego Walls
  • Water bottles
  • Bridges
  • Tunnels
  • Cones
  • Ramp

Stage two – Idea development

Idea development outline

  • Substitute – Take one thing out to replace it with something else that preforms the same function
  • Combine – Take two ideas from the obstacle course and merge them to make one section
  • Adapt – Add/Move/Change aspects of an idea to make it better
  • Modify – To make partial changes to an idea
  • Put to another use – Take one section of the course and give it another function or make it meet a different criteria section
  • Eliminate – Take out one section of the course
  • Reverse – Pick it up, Flip it and reverse it

Substitute

We took out a part of the road and made it into a bridge so we could do the line following movement. We are doing this because

Combine

We combined the walls, Cones, and the ramp.

Adapt

Modify

Put to another use

We used one of the walls and put it to another use by turning it into a ramp instead

Eliminate

Reverse
